Cayuga Blue wins cheese award

Lively Run Dairy announced that its Cayuga Blue was awarded First Place in its class at the 2017 American Cheese Society Cheese Contest. The cheese is blue-veined with a rind, made from pasteurized goat’s milk.

Second and third place in the category went to cheesemakers from Colorado and Maryland.

The competition was massive: Two hundred eighty one cheesemakers from the US, Canada, Mexico, and Colombia entered over 2,020 different products into many categories based on type of milk and production practices used. The contest was judged by more than 40 people.

Only three New York State producers were awarded First Place in the contest. Other award-winning NYS cheesemakers included:

Old Chatham Sheepherding Company in the Hudson Valley for ricotta, camembert, soft sheep’s milk cheese, yogurt, and blue cheeses in different categories.

Nettle Meadow, in the Adirondacks, for its soft ripened cow-goat cheese called Kunik.

Murray’s Cheese in NYC for its Hudson Flower flavored cheese.

Lactatalis American Group, based in Buffalo, for its cheddar, provolone, and brie.

and BelGioioso for its mozzarella.
