The Friendship Donation Network has put out a call for new volunteers to help with their food rescue projects. They are seeking volunteers to “prevent good food from being wasted and ensure that it gets to people in our community who need it most.” Shifts are flexible and volunteers can do an amount of work which fits their personal schedules.
The Friendship Donation Network was founded in 1988 by Ithaca resident Sara Pines to pick up would-be-discarded food and deliver it to places it was needed. Food pantries, low-income housing communities, and low-wage places of employment were among the first recipients of Friendship Donation Network donations. These days it is fully incorporated as a non-profit and is run almost entirely by volunteers.
