Friendship Donations Network on WRFI

From the WRFI Human Rights Show:

Meaghan Sheehan Rosen and Art Pearce from the Friendship Donations Network (FDN) talk about how the organization is rescuing surplus food and distributing it to food pantries and other sites across the county. Every year they distribute 500,000 pounds of food in Tompkins County and every week this services around 2,000 people. Meaghan is a part-time employee but everyone else volunteers their time and/or food. We also talk about understanding food labels and expiration dates. In the United States around 40 percent of the food being produced is wasted and 25 percent of the food consumers buy is thrown away. During the summer extra food can be dropped off at so-called Neighborhood Food Hubs, which are located throughout Ithaca and Tompkins County. For more information visit friendshipdonations.org.
