Groundswell Center for Local Food and Farming and Wolftree Farm announce a Scything Workshop, taking place on Sunday, August 7 from 9am to 5pm at Groundswell’s Incubator Farm. Scything is a method of hand-mowing grass or hay using a long-handled implement (scythe) with a metal blade at the end.
Participants have the option of taking the full-day or afternoon only workshop. In the morning, instructor and scythe-maker Jeromy Biazzo will teach the class how to make an adjustable Austrian-style scythe to take home. In the afternoon participants will practice proper techniques for mowing and caring for scythes. (Anyone who comes for the afternoon only should bring their own scythe or be prepared to share with someone else.)
Tuition for the course is $150 for the whole day (includes a scythe to take home) or $60 for the afternoon only. Tuition assistance is available upon request. Transportation is also available (free of charge) to the Incubator Farm from the Groundswell Office in Ithaca. For more information or to register please follow this link.
