Announcement from the Tompkins County Food Policy Council:
Dear Friends of the Tompkins County Food Policy Council,
Our Council election process has now concluded and we are happy to announce that we now have our very first official Tompkins County Food Policy Council. This first election in fact had no contested seats, so everybody who ran for election was successful. Congratulations, thank you and welcome to all new Council Members! They are:
Amie Hamlin, Audrey Baker, Barb Eckstrom, Bobby Smith, Brooke McNally, Carol Dresser, Dan Hoffman, Devon Jenkins, Eden Connelly, Jemila Sequeira, Jules Hojnowski, Kristin Townsend, Kristina Camille Sims, Lindsey Lyman, Mike Biltonen, Neil Oolie, Olivia Armstrong, Phoebe Brown, Rafael Aponte, Samuel Bosco, and Tom Shelley.
Information about the elected council members is available on our website at https://farmerseed.wordpress.com. Information about the appointed members will be up soon.
Thank you also to all the Friends who cast their ballots in this process. As of November 30, there were 190 Friends of the Food Policy Council. Of these, 68 or about 36% participated in the voting process, using a mix of online and paper ballots. We’re pleased with the level of voter participation, which is higher than many other election processes.
The new Council will begin its work in January 2016 with an orientation meeting, where the members of the FPC will get to meet each other and receive background information on the intent in forming a TC Food Policy Council, how councils generally work, and the process for moving ahead.
STAY TUNED FRIENDS! The new Council will need your support in many ways. We’ll let you know about opportunities to help with transportation, child care, training, and other needs of the Council members. Please let us know if you would like to become more involved. We also welcome new Friends at any time, so please spread the word.
You can also phone us at 607-252-6695, although it might take a couple days to get back to you. We are all volunteers!
Thank you all!
The Food Policy Council planning group.
